TEETH WHITENING.

  • Professional teeth whitening is the best, if not the only, way to achieve maximum teeth whitening results. This is because professional whitening treatments use a special gel with higher concentrations of active whitening ingredients which can be safely applied under controlled conditions. The POLA day/night gels we use in our professional whitening packs contain special additives which help:

    -Minimise plaque formation

    -Enhance remineralisation to reduce sensitivity

-Promote antibacterial properties to help in tooth recovery

Bleaching products bought over the counter or whitening services offered by unregulated suppliers could damage your gums and cause extreme teeth sensitivity and, in some cases, erode the natural enamel of your teeth, leading to long-term damage.

Typically, the cost of professional teeth whitening is more than the cost of over-the-counter products, but the final results demonstrate that in terms of teeth whitening you get what you pay for.

  • Teeth whitening aims to lighten the colour of stained or discoloured teeth. Food and drinks such as coffee, tea and red wine are some major causes of discolouration on the outside surface of the tooth, also known as extrinsic staining. Dental practitioners are best placed to diagnose the reason for tooth discolouration and provide advice on whether tooth whitening will be an effective treatment.

Teeth whitening completed by dental professionals involves chemically treating the teeth with hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide. The strength of the tooth whitening gel used depends on a range of factors and is specially selected by a registered dental practitioner.

Take-home tooth whitening treatment is completed at home by the patient under the instruction of the dental practitioner.

An impression mould of your teeth is required to make the custom whitening trays.

Book a free consultation or send us an enquiry if you’d like to know more about your teeth whitening options.

  • We advise having a general check-up and clean with your regular dentist to ensure your teeth are in healthy condition before considering professional teeth whitening treatment. Eligibility requirements include attending to treatment planned fillings for tooth decay or erosion.

MOUTHGUARDS.

  • The Australian Dental Association strongly recommends the use of a mouthguard in any sport or activity where collision or contact is likely. It is advised to wear your mouthguard during both competition and training. Here is a list of sports where we recommend the use of a mouthguard:

    • Boxing

    • AFL

    • Rugby

    • Soccer

    • Volleyball

    • Hockey

    • Mixed martial arts

    • Basketball

    • BMX

    • Skateboarding

    • Lacrosse

    • Water polo

    • Wrestling

  • When it comes to mouthguards, there are typically two main options:

    • Boil and bite

    • Custom fitted

Boil and bite mouthguards can be found at your local chemist. They are generally loose fitting which can impair your breathing and speech, and more importantly diminish the protection capacity of the mouthguard.

In general, the nature of risk and exposure to high impact involved with the sport you do will determine what type of mouthguard you should wear. Wild Smiles offers 3 levels of custom fitted mouthguards:

    • Classic (single layer)

    • Intermediate (double layer)

    • Heavy duty (double layer with reinforced hard plastic)

Each mouthguard is made personalised to suit your sporting requirements.
